WHEN YOUR DOG'S BEHAVIOR IS MORE THAN JUST "BAD"
Some issues can’t be fixed with basic training. If your dog’s behavior is dangerous, destructive, or out of control, our intensive Board & Train program is the solution.
You’ve tried everything… but nothing is working.
You’ve watched YouTube videos.
Read every dog training book.
Tried treats, corrections, new collars, and even changing their food.
But the problems are still there.
The jumping.
The barking.
The lunging.
The growling.
Or maybe it’s worse…
Your dog has snapped at someone.
Fought another dog.
Or become so anxious they shut down—or destroy your home.
At this point, it’s not just frustrating…
It’s exhausting.
You’re constantly on edge, wondering if today will be the day things go too far.
And deep down, you’re asking yourself:
“Can my dog even be fixed?”
The answer? Yes.
But they need serious training.
And that’s exactly what our Board & Train program is for.
This isn’t basic obedience
For the ones who don’t just “act up” but become dangerous.
For the ones who can’t focus, can’t settle, and can’t be trusted.
For the ones that require expert handling to get through to them.
Here’s why this works:
- Your dog gets one-on-one, immersive training every single day.
- We tackle the root cause of the behavior—not just the symptoms.
- They learn to be calm, confident, and in control—no matter the situation.
- You get private coaching so you know exactly how to maintain their progress at home.
- And most importantly? You get a dog you can trust again.
Because some dogs need more than basic training.
They need a complete reset.
And that’s what we do.
Are you ready for real change?
Here's What Our 'Damn Good Dog Owners' Are Saying...
Stacy SpragueNovember 6, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. After Remi, our frenchie, joined our family, we quickly knew we would need some professional assistance when it came to training. We have been sideline supporters of Shanell for years and knew of her love, commitment, and dedication to dogs. It was a “no brainer” that we would choose her to train our Remi. Shanell is so kind, thoughtful, and educated when it comes to her training. She trained Remi daily while loving on her like she was her own. Remi came back with an excellent understanding and foundation of basic commands that provide safety for her as well as a building block for us to grow on. I highly recommend Shanell and trust her with all of my dogs training needs. James DobsonSeptember 11, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. "You can't teach an old dog new tricks". YEA RIGHT! Shanell is training 2 of our dogs and our 9 year old has the best recall she's ever had in her whole life. Prior to K918 our dogs couldn't be in the same room without hackles going up. 3 weeks in and they are laying on the couch next to each other with no issues. I have no doubt that if we take the foundation that has been laid for us, that things will be fully back to normal. Jamie DeBoerJuly 26, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Shanell was absolutely amazing to work with! I did virtual training and was nervous I wouldn’t make much progress since it wasn’t in person. She was invested and cared about my progress/my dog just as much as I did. If you are willing to put in the work and time, you will see results. My dog has so much more confidence and listens well because it is communicated clearly what he needs to do. I would recommend Shanell to anyone! Dani RossMarch 15, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Y’all. I got a friend’s referral to call Shanell after my pup had eaten TWO pairs of eyeglasses, a flip flop, a pair of sandals, scissors ✂️ 😱 … basically anything I had touched, she wanted and destroyed. (High energy much?!) I made the choice to send Scrappy to have intensive training with Shanell - so bye bye pup for three weeks! I got periodic updates - not only texts but pictures and videos. She let me know how they were progressing and what skills she was mastering. This dog came home with so much more confidence! She’s not afraid of the leash, can walk and have manners on it, rides in the car, does basic commands, and we’re still working on more! We have had our first download - (read: train the mom to be a better pet parent for Scrappy!) and she walked ME through how to play and incorporate some of the training/lessons. Scrappy is still high energy, which we love, but now we’ve found a way to get her brain working and tired at the end of the day. I was literally at my wits end! This dog destroyed a room when she busted out of her crate one night (before the training), and now we’re using her play drive to wear her out in a healthy way. And another happy side effect - she’s even more lovable. Bethany DickieMarch 1, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We cannot thank Shanell enough! We had an awesome experience working with her. She was very adaptive to our dog’s personality and our specific goals. She gave us tools and techniques to have safe and fun experiences with our dog. Our dog loves the freedom and we love the trust we built! Thanks again! Will DudneyDecember 13, 2023Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Shanell did an excellent job, and we really enjoyed working with her. We have a 2-year-old goldendoodle, and we were needing some help with improving several behavioral concerns, including obedience, sensitivity with being groomed, and occasionally being a little aggressive to unfamiliar people/dogs, before we had our first baby. We had previously sent our dog to a different boarding training program, and while this is definitely a good option for other people and their pups, we found the in-person sessions extremely helpful in practicing and implementing the training ourselves and getting real-time feedback. Shanell was very professional, timely, great with communication, and fun to work with. We saw a ton of improvement in our dog’s behavior and have been totally comfortable with him being around our newborn. Would highly recommend Shanell! Callie DeereDecember 12, 2023Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Shanell was wonderful! We have a belgian malinois/german shepherd mix and we did in home training. She truly took the time to assess and understand what our dog needed, was nothing but helpful the entire time, and was always there if we had any questions in-between our sessions. Her way of training builds a great relationship between you and your dog while having structured training at the same time! Highly recommend and she is so easy to get along with as well! sorcha hardingDecember 16, 2022Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I reached out to Shanell after finding her on instagram and seeing dogs she had previously worked with. I am not based close by so I initially reached out to see if she had a recommendation of someone near me who has a similar training style to her as I loved what I saw. Shanell suggested the virtual option, which initially I was a little skeptical of, worried that it would be too much for me. It has been the best thing ever! Shanell is so knowledgable and I’ve learnt so much. The video platform she uses is very easy to use, and Shanell is very prompt with her responses to any questions and providing feedback. Through the videos we send, she sees how our pup responds in different scenarios and tweaks her advice so it’s tailored to us! Shanell helped us get into a great routine with our high energy Vizsla puppy, and introduced us to the world of structured play which has been a game changer for our pup. Our initial sessions with Shanell were so helpful that we are continuing to work with her and are well on our way to off leash freedom with bullet proof recall! I would highly recommend working with K918 dog training. We are very glad we do!Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. what is a board & Train?
Our Board & Train program is designed for dogs 7 months and older, whether they need behavior modification, obedience training, or both.
Unlike traditional kennel-based programs, your dog will live in my home, becoming part of my family—not a loud, stressful boarding facility.
They’ll receive one-on-one attention, personalized training, and the same love and care as my own two dogs (which is a lot!).
Every program is custom-tailored to your goals, no matter the breed or behavioral challenges.
This comprehensive, results-driven program spans 4–6+ weeks, allowing time for real, lasting behavior changes—not just a quick-fix boot camp.
Because I only accept one dog at a time, space is extremely limited.
If you’re ready to give your dog the focused training they deserve, apply today!
OUR SIMPLE 3 STEP PROCESS
We Assess & Customize → Every dog is different, and we build a plan that fits your lifestyle.

IT'S TIME TO PLAY YOUR WAY TO A WELL BEHAVED DOG
(we're not kidding, play can fix ALL these problems)
we do way more than just obedience training
THE POWER IS
IN THE PLAY
Our training is not your run of the mill “sit-for-a-treat” kind of training.
(You’ve probably figured out how to do that on your own, but still have other issues)
Our play-based approach to training is revolutionizing dog ownership for our clients, and producing results that ACTUALLY change your dog’s behavior for good.
We focus on the importance of the dog-owner relationship, exposure to different environments, as well as proper interactions with other dogs and people.
You shouldn’t have to constantly tell your dog what to do, instead, we’ll help them understand how to make good decisions independently – so you can stop micro managing them.
Comprehensive Training for Lasting Results
At Damn Good Dog Training, we use a play-based approach to make learning fun, effective, and lasting. During their stay, your dog will:
✅ Master essential obedience skills – Loose-leash walking, sit, down, come, leave it, and more.
✅ Overcome behavioral challenges – Training is tailored to your dog’s specific needs and daily struggles.
✅ Develop confidence and social skills – Supervised group play and field trips provide real-world experience.
✅ Stay engaged and active – Training sessions are balanced with fun and structured play.
We keep you involved every step of the way with regular updates, photos, and videos—and you’re welcome to observe sessions to stay connected.
Training That Lasts Beyond the Program
📍 At the end of their stay, we work directly with you to transfer all skills learned.
📍 Follow-up lessons take place at your home, ensuring you know how to maintain progress.
📍 You’ll learn how to use the right training tools and integrate play to reinforce behaviors.
We’re dedicated to helping you build a stronger relationship with your dog—so you can enjoy the well-trained, well-mannered companion you’ve always dreamed of.
No More Bribing With Treats
Your dog learns to listen because they want to, not because they’re waiting for food.
Your Dog Keeps Their Personality
No nervous robots here—just a happy, well-behaved dog (that also listens)
Lifetime Access To A Certified Trainer
Even when your training program is over, it's never really over. Ask us anything, anytime, for the rest of your dog's life.
OUR PROGRAMS
Obedience & Off-Leash Reliability
NON -
AGGRESSIVE
4 WEEKS & REQUIRED FOLLOW UP LESSONS
This program is designed for dogs who are friendly but out of control—the ones who mean well but just don’t listen.
- Pull like crazy on leash, making every walk a battle.
- Jump on guests, no matter how many times you say "off."
- Bolt out the door the second it opens.
- Only listen when they feel like it—or when there’s a treat in your hand.
- Have endless energy and struggle to settle down at home.
- Come when called… sometimes… if there’s nothing better to do.
If you’re tired of constantly repeating commands, feeling embarrassed in public, or just wishing your dog had better manners…
This program will transform your dog into a calm, well-behaved, and reliable companion—one you can trust at home, on walks, and even off-leash.
All training equipment included in the cost of the program ($270 value):
-Ecollar

Aggression, Anxiety, Severe Issues
BEHAVIOR
MODIFICATION
6+ WEEKS & REQUIRED FOLLOW UP LESSONS
A dog that’s a good fit for our Behavior Modification Program isn’t just “stubborn” or “difficult”—they have serious behavioral challenges that require expert intervention.
This program is for dogs who:
- Show aggression—growling, snapping, lunging, or biting people or other dogs.
- Have extreme anxiety—pacing, destructive behavior, or shutting down in fear.
- Guard food, toys, or spaces—growling or attacking if someone gets too close.
- Explode on walks—barking, lunging, or pulling so hard they’re impossible to control.
- Ignore all commands because they’re too overstimulated, reactive, or fearful.
If you’re walking on eggshells, avoiding certain situations, or feel like you’ve run out of options… It’s time for professional help.
This program doesn't simply teach obedience commands - (that does not fix aggression.) We focus on changing the emotions within the dog, teaching them how to have proper social interactions with other dogs and/or humans, so they can navigate the world safely and confidently.
These dogs need more help than most, which is why the program is long. A quick 2 week bootcamp may give you temporary results, but won't change your dog's behavior long term.
All training equipment included in the cost of the program ($270 value):
-Ecollar
-Prong collar (if needed)
-Tug toy or ball on a rope

WHAT THE FAQ?
YOU'VE GOT QUESTIONS, WE'VE GOT ANSWERS.
Dogs must be at least 7 months old to enroll in our Board & Train programs.
But there’s no such thing as “too old” for training!
We’ve worked with dogs of all ages—even 9-year-olds—and they’ve made incredible progress.
Whether your dog is a stubborn adolescent or a grown adult with years of bad habits, they can still learn, improve, and become the well-behaved companion you’ve always wanted.
(We no longer offer puppy training, but have someone to happily refer you to who specializes in puppies if that is what you are looking for.)
Proof of current vaccinations is required before boarding your dog. Vaccinations must be current for your dogs age.
Rabies vaccine
Bordetella
Distemper (DHLPP)
Yes! We accept both intact and spayed/neutered dogs in our training programs.
Your dog’s training and behavior are our top priorities, and being intact does not affect their ability to learn.
If you have an intact female that you think may go into heat while they are here, we ask that you send a diaper with them to minimize the mess.
All we need from you is:
- Enough food for their entire stay.
- A bed (if they have one and you’d like them to have it).
- A favorite toy for comfort.
That’s it! We provide everything else—leashes, training tools, and anything needed for their daily routine. Just send them with the essentials, and we’ll take care of the rest!
Yes! We stand by our training and your dog’s success.
If we feel we cannot achieve the results you’re looking for, we will either continue working for free until we do or provide a refund.
Our goal is real, lasting results—and we’re fully committed to making that happen.
Our methods are designed to be transparent and customized. We utilize a balanced approach which involves a variety of factors including: reinforcement, consequences, emotions and environment.
Simply put, we reinforce behaviors we want to see more of, and stop behaviors we want to see less of. This system of training has proven to be the most effective way for any dog to learn.
When it comes to dog training, it is important to remember that one size does not fit all. We use a variety of tools to assist with training and motivating dogs, from toys, play, food, and praise, to flat collars, remote training collars and pinch collars. The tools used will depend on what each dog responds best to as well as the goals you wish to accomplish!
Rest assured that we will never undertake any training approach without your full approval. For instance, if we believe an electric collar might be beneficial, we will have a detailed conversation with you beforehand to ensure your comfort and consent.
Training doesn’t stop when your dog comes home—it transfers to you.
That’s why follow-up lessons are required to ensure you’re confident handling your dog, maintaining their progress, and continuing their training.
We’ll show you exactly what your dog has learned, how to reinforce it, and how to keep building on their success.
This way, you get long-term results—not just a temporary fix.
